  1. Rick was a great friend to me. I loved the sense of humor that he had, even at the end of his life. I so appreciated the fact that he held on tight to his faith. He didn't want to leave this life, yet he trusted himself in God's hands. My sincere love goes out to Jeanne, Cara, Ryan and the rest of his special family. I will think of him often, especially when I run and I will miss him greatly. There were many cold, snowy, icy, and rainy mornings that I would have stayed in bed, but because I knew that HE would never wimp out because of bad weather, I got up and made may way to meet him. I never regreted any of our runs... well maybe the time I slid on my butt across Cuesta Way after falling on the ice. He and Jeanne showed up on my doorstep a few hours later with a present for me - Yak Trax shoe grippers -so thoughtful. :-) After his first tumor, he wanted to run the River Bank 25k again. We trained together and he finished so strong and truly enjoyed it. What an inspiration! Now he has finished this race we call life.......... and is with the Lord. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7. He was a treasure to all that had the pleasure of knowing him. His death is a great loss to those he leaves behind, yet we can all rejoice in the fact that he is at peace and with God.

  3. I always enjoyed our road trips down to Detroit when we would just talk about life. Rick was always a fighter against his cancer and that came out in our talks. You could also tell how proud he was of his family. Rick will truely be missed by many. My sympathy goes out to Jeanne, Cara, Ryan and the rest of his family.

  7. I will never forget Rick and the place I called my second home during the summers when I was in high school. Thanks for spending time with me and getting to know me and for inviting me over for family meals. I will never forget Rick's patience and encouragement when he and Cara taught me how to ski, and the early mornings we spent out on the Lake doing the ski course. I remember when he came and spoke at FCA at Rockford when he first found out about the tumor. He was enthusiastic and encouraging despite the bad news, and told kids to hold on to their faith. Thank you Rick for always greeting me warmly and accepting me into your home and life. I am thankful for those times.

  13. We have had the pleasure of outsourcing to Rick and the I-3 group and are saddened by this news. We are holding the family and the group at I-3 in our prayers. We didn't know Rick that well but he was always a pleasure to work with and very passionate about his work. I am grateful to have had the chance to work with him. God Bless.

  19. We met the Stoddard family when we moved near them on the lake. Our first impression was what a cool family they were. They had so much fun together. Rick's enthusiasm for skiing was contagious. Many early summer mornings our wake up call was Rick firing up "Bu" to start the day. We're going to miss all of you this summer. We hope as a family you can heal and find peace. Rick was an amazing husband, dad and friend. We feel privileged to have known him. We send our love to you Jeanne, Cara and Ryan.

  21. Cara and Ryan, your Dad was truly a good guy. I have had the oppurtunity to talk many hours with your Dad during hockey practices, walks/run on the White Pine Trail and afterwards. What did we talk about, his family. You could just tell how much he loved his family and how proud he was of you.

Jeanne, thank you for sharing Rick with us. It has been said somewhere above but your story was truly a love story. Your love, care and support was obvious especially during these last 6 years.

Rick was truly a good friend of mine. Friends as good as Rick are hard to find and are worth millions. I will miss him dearly.

  22. Jesus wept when his friend Lazarus died. I too wept when I heard the news about Rick.

Although it’s been years since I’ve seen Rick, we spent a lot of time together in high school and the following years. We both had a few things in common – we liked cars, and neither of us had a girl friend. I remember a hilarious night when I tried to learn how to drive a stick in Rick’s green Nova with a 327 and a heavy clutch. The guardian angels were with us one night when Rick forgot about a curve on a back road. We also spent a lot of time together on the o-line in football, and traveling with the marching band. He invited me to go skiing to Colorado after we had graduated from college. I visited him when he lived in Bridgeman. I think he had to use some oil/gas boat mixture in his car in order to get to work.

I was so glad to read of Rick’s faith in the Lord. I live in that faith that I will see him again.

My prayers have been, and will be, with Jeanne and the Stoddard family.

  23. Jeanne, Ryan and Cara,

I had the good fortune of spending a couple of great years with your family while coaching Ryan's hockey team. I always smile when I think of those years. Rick, and your family were a big part of that. I could always count on a smile on Rick's face, whether we had just won or whether we were walking into some frozen rink at 6:30 in the morning. He was a great example for all of us and a great example for me as I became a Dad.

The thoughts and prayers of my family are with you.

  24. Ryan, Jeanne and Cara,

I thank you for the time that I got to spend with Rick and your family. I always loved when I would come over and could have dinner with all of you out on your deck. I will remember the times Rick would take us skiing and spending time together in the summer. I am sorry for your loss and I am praying for all of you.
